Golfo Dulce & Casa Orquídeas
After a wonderful day at the second largest coral reef in the eastern Pacific, on Coiba Island, we sail overnight to start this new day at our first destination in Costa Rican territory.
We start with a morning visit to a tropical botanical garden full of heliconias, orchids, zingiberales, palms, and a array of spectacular birds as toucans, honeycreepers, tanagers and a striking king vulture, this place is known as Casa Orquideas (Orchid house).
This beautiful botanical garden only accessible by boat is a perfect place to learn about the species of plants we can find on the tropics and their relation with its habitants.
We came back to the ship for a delicious lunch, some rested and there we go again! This time heading up a river on a Zodiac cruise passing red mangroves, and trees burdened with birds and epiphytes. Among the inhabitants of this scenic paradise that we had a chance to see we can mention the white ibis, boat billed heron and the sulfur-winged parakeet among many others.
In such a unique environment it would be difficult to pick a highlight, how to pick one when all the time you encounter things that are not a part of your every day: the sound of scarlet macaws and a king vulture flying over our heads, tent-making bats on the palm tree around the corner, and a troop of Central American squirrel monkeys moving by a river.
So at the end Golfo Dulce and Casa Orquideas, an unforgettable experience!
