Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica
Having sailed around the Osa Peninsula last night, we found ourselves approaching the Corcovado National Park by sunrise. The uninterrupted greenery along the coastline gave us an idea of what was to come. Soon after breakfast we were shuttled ashore for our first outing of the day. Most of us took to the trails on different hikes with various degrees of difficulty.
One of the hikes was through a large section of pristine, primary forest. Sightings of toucans, trogons, curassows, along with some species of monkeys were the highlight of the trip. Another walk traversed the same kind of ecosystem, and was rewarded by an impressive waterfall that offered great opportunities for swimming.
Shortly before noon we repositioned the vessel to a lovely spot known as Punta Caletas. We came ashore for a delicious picnic lunch that our galley crew had prepared. It didn’t take much for us to become seduced by the whims of a gentle tropical breeze on our lazy hammocks. After a few minutes of rest, some of us departed on a horseback riding adventure along the coast, while others opted for a refreshing swim at a nearby beach. In the late afternoon, we embarked for our journey into Panama.
