Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica
Our first day aboard the Sea Voyager gave us several emotions to enjoy. Many of the early risers saw the sunrise over the tombolo of Manuel Antonio National Park as the light shone through the rainforest. We disembarked and went in different directions, but all of us enjoyed the wildlife immensely. Whereas some saw mantled howler monkeys, others saw the white-throated capuchins. Sloths, helmeted iguanas, black spiny-tailed iguanas, antbirds, antshrikes are among the many species that entertained us.
We lifted anchor and cruised towards the Osa Peninsula. As we were finishing our dessert at lunch, pantropical spotted dolphins swam over and rode at the bow and soon afterwards our captain gave us a great opportunity to watch an olive ridley sea turtle in the water.
As we arrived at San Josecito for our first snorkeling experience, scarlet macaws showed up in flight, illuminated by the wonderful afternoon sun and three white hawks rose on a kettle above the birdwatchers, while the snorkelers followed the jeweled moray eels and the moorish idols.
After an amazing diversity of experiences on the first day, we cannot wait until tomorrow to start another adventure.
