We first sighted this snow covered, cone-shaped peak from the highway that winds up the Hood River Valley. It was obscured early this morning by a blanket of clouds, but as the day progressed the clouds lifted and we had this amazing view of one of the Cascade volcanoes.
Our day included scenic train rides, homemade pie in the quaint community of Parkdale, exploration of the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and viewing the spectacular waterfalls of the Gorge from the decks of the Sea Lion. A California sea lion even traveled nearly a hundred miles to feast on Chinook salmon headed upstream to spawn, and greeted us in passing just below Bonneville Dam!
We're finally back on the free-flowing Columbia River -- roll on Columbia, roll on.
