Cabo San Lucas

This morning the ship entered the harbor of Cabo San Lucas, a town that has grown tremendously during the past decade. One small group of birders went with our naturalist Henriqueta for some birding time. A large group went with the other naturalists to a beach just east of town to do some snorkeling. Everyone was back aboard for lunch, during which we left for the Sea of Cortez.

In the afternoon we saw humpback whales surfacing and diving near an area called Gorda Banks. This spot is good for fishing and for seeing marine mammals. The picture shows a humpback as it is "fluking up" prior to a deep dive, possibly to feed.
