Magdalena Bay:

The first morning of our journey was spent watching gray whales cavorting at La Entrada or the entrance to Magdalena Bay, which is the sheltered water that the whales enjoy in the winter and spring. We then went for walks across the dunes to a place called Sand Dollar Beach.

In the early afternoon, the Sea Bird took on a local pilot and we traveled through the narrow Hull Canal. Lining the shore were large expanses of mangroves. These salt-resistant plants help to stabilize the dunes and provide shelter for shore birds.
