Floreana Island
There is a beautiful bird found in all the vegetation zones of the Galápagos Islands, and on all the islands. But perhaps it is on Floreana that this bird is more notorious. It could be because of the leafless trees, or maybe these warblers are more abundant here. It could also be due to the lack of sea birds on the ground, so our eyes focus more on the smaller birds that flit from branch to branch.
I am talking of course, about the yellow warbler. This is a small but very beautiful land bird, with bright yellow feathers and, in the males, a red cap. Females have no cap and have lighter yellow bodies. This warbler is the only colorful land bird that is found in the lowlands of this archipelago, and it has a wonderful, melodic song.
Today, in addition to the lovely warblers, we found some larger birds to enjoy; we saw greater flamingoes, and counted about 30 of them. We also explored the underwater world and here we found a few white-tipped reef sharks, and green sea turtles. But our best friends, the Galápagos sea lions, again stole the show. Floreana was generous with her beauty and we had a marvelous day on this island.
