Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino

Today we dropped anchor off the shores of a place known as Dragon Hill. Nobody really knows why this place got such a name, but our common sense tells us that it is because of the good number of land iguanas found here, and their facial resemblance to mythological little dragons.

We started off with a very relaxing walk to observe these “yellow creatures” in their breeding grounds. By the time we arrived, some of them were already foraging and even eating the cactus fruits, which were full of spines. We end up on the top of a hill where we could identify easily different islands is the surrounding.

After this walk we jumped into our wetsuits and bathing suits and got ready for the snorkeling. Several species of fish were easily identified as we snorkeled along a beautiful wall located at the near by Guy Fawkes Island. Fish were not the only species we saw-- some playful sea lions decided to join our little venture this morning as well. We even had one of our guests commenting on the experience of having sea lions pulling continuously on one of his snorkeling fins. What extraordinary creatures sea lions are!

After lunch we sailed off toward a different island called Sombrero Chino. This is a young volcano with the clear shape of a Chinese Hat. We offered kayaking, snorkeling, beach time and Zodiac cruises. Everyone had the chance to experience a nice afternoon with a little bit of everything and by the time guests arrived on the beach, sea lions were already there as if they were waiting for them! The contrast in colors: black lava, white sand and turquoise waters; it was simply surreal!
