Milos and Poliegos

It was a beautiful and warm late afternoon as we departed from Marina Zea and headed to Cape Sounion where we could see the amazing Temple of Poseidon. We must have made the right sacrifices to him because we were able to enjoy an incredible swim in the Agean Sea, just in view of his temple.

We have the very unique opportunity of having just five family groups on board, so everyone got comfortable with each other quite quickly. It was so nice to see families reuniting and truly enjoying the company of each other. We settled in for the night after some fun and games, it was a little bumpy for some, yet we were able to awaken to feel the breeze on deck as we sailed into Milos. The morning was spent learning about the Ancient Games and getting an introduction into our own Family Feud edition of the “Pan Oramics”. We departed from the ship and loaded onto our buses that took us to visit the “Tripiti” archaeological area where the “Venus de Milo” statue was found. From there, we loaded back on the bus and drove to the beautiful little town of “Plaka” where our guide Sophia was able to convince the priest to let us enter the breathtaking church.

After exploring, shopping and ice-cream we traveled to the moon, or “Sarakiniko” where every time I feel as though I am walking on the moon due to the volcanic tuff that is as smooth as ice and white as snow. It really looks like visitors are in a science fiction film. We did not come across any aliens or space invaders, yet we did venture into some caves and envied the dozens of locals that were enjoying their holiday swimming. When it was time to go, we headed back to the dock for a short period of shopping before returning to the sea.

We had some beautiful afternoon sailing, where our final destination anchored us just off the coast of Poliegos. We got to spend the afternoon kayaking, swimming, snorkeling and a few even enjoyed a little hike to look for goats and appreciate the sites. We ended the evening with a language lesson given by our outstanding guides Sophia and Eleni who properly equipped our guests with ammo for their next challenge in the “Pan Oramic Games.” Overall it was the perfect start to our weeklong Greece adventure.
