Bartolomé and Santiago Islands

Guest had the option of an early-morning outing – a hike to the summit of Bartolomé Island.

We were greeted by a hungry, fast-swimming little penguin as we dry landed on the manmade cement pier. The Galápagos National Park Service built wooden stairs that lead to the top of the Bartolomé volcano, which makes this an easy hike with a wonderful view from the summit.

From the top we could see some of the surrounding islands, plus we snapped some family pictures with the famous pinnacle rock in the background.

Later in the day glass-bottom boat tours were offered, and we learned a lot from the on board Naturalists who described the bottom of the sea and its wonderful and varied creatures.

Situated at the eastern tip of Santiago, Bartolomé Island offers a lot of natural attractions. Those of us who went snorkeling had a blast observing a Galápagos penguin that was fishing right next to the beach – and a sea lion even climbed onto the massage table of our floating spa!

A walk along the shores of Puerto Egas was definitely a highlight that topped off this last day in paradise. The wild rocky shore filled with sea lions, birds and marine iguanas will stay in our minds forever.
