Española Island
Our day began on the oldest island of the archipelago. Española Island is also home for the Galápagos waved albatrosses, blue footed boobies, Nazca boobies, and many other species that are unique to this island.
We walked along a rocky trail, and all along the way we could hear and see blue footed boobies courting, mating and exchanging twigs and pebbles. Some Nazca boobies were also observed looking eagerly for a mate, others already incubating their eggs while a bit farther away we could see a couple of juveniles trying hard to take off. A few yards further we found a lonely albatross incubating an egg; it was also trying to cool off a bit since the heat started to increase in the mid morning. We returned to our ship to get fitted for snorkeling gear and get ready for the afternoon activities.
After a wonderful morning on Punta Suarez we repositioned our ship and headed eastwards to Gardner Bay; there we went snorkeling, kayaking and on to the glass bottom boat. We were very excited and content as we enjoyed a great day on this island.
Every corner in Galápagos has a particular characteristic and makes every day extraordinary and different.
