Floreana Island

This morning the visit started with an optional wake up call to land at Post Office Bay and its famous barrel. It is a mail system that has lasted more than 200 years. Some of us were lucky enough to have some of these letters mailed to destinations just a few blocks away from our houses! The tradition calls for hand delivery…so we took them.

Then, breakfast came in, and we all got dressed for the best snorkeling of the week! We got to see sea lions, colorful tropical fish, octopus, rays and diving boobies. The other folks were ready for a Zodiac ride around Champion Island, in search of the rarest of the Galápagos mockingbirds: the Floreana mockingbird. After success and 10 spotted creatures, we went back on board.

Lunch was a must since we were hungry. Also we needed more energy for the afternoon kayak activities, and the hike along the largest lagoon of the Galápagos. Greater flamingoes were our target and we got them, in the most beautiful landscape of the island…

We ended up on an incredible white sandy beach known as Flour Beach, with turtle nests and frigates all over, waiting for the baby turtles to hatch…quite a lot of drama to finish a great day on this island…
