Isabela & Fernandina Islands
Today we are visiting the western border of the Galápagos archipelago, the realm of the young volcanoes. Early in the morning, as we approached the equator line, a huge pod of common dolphins came around our ship and accompanied the ship for around half an hour or so. About 500 of them highlighted our early morning hours.
After breakfast we crossed the equator and King Neptune emerged from the bottom of the seas to punish us for having crossed the equator without his permission. He came with his pirates and we all had a great celebration as the ship announced crossing the line.
Snorkeling with sea turtles was a great highlight of the morning. Flightless cormorants, penguins and fur sea lions came along with us.
The afternoon highlight was the nesting marine iguanas. The tide was very high and we had a lot of fun with the big waves that splashed us from time to time as we walked on Punta Espinosa.
