On Saunders Island we hiked in lovely warm and sunny weather across to the beach opposite our landing, where a small group of king penguins have established a new breeding colony. Only a few birds were present, so we were very careful not to disturb them.

On the island were enormous numbers of gentoo, rockhopper and Magellanic penguins as well as numerous other seabirds. We spent a wonderful afternoon enjoying the scenery and wildflife before returning to the ship and moving to our next destination.
