We woke up to a navigating along the coast of Isabela, the largest of the Galapagos. Volcanoes in the distance and a few ocean birds on the surface of the calm water welcomed us to the northern snout of the sea horse shaped island.
During the navigation, we spotted some ocean sun fish and a couple of Mobula rays jumping in the distance. We soon crossed the equator line and dropped anchor at Punta Vicente Roca. We headed on a Zodiac ride along the coast of this young visitor site. Galapagos penguins and flightless cormorants were seen fishing, marine iguanas were basking under the sun, and pelicans were resting on the titan cliffs. After the Zodiac ride, we went snorkeling and got to see plenty of pacific green sea turtles, some feeding and others resting on the ocean floor. A couple of penguins were seen swimming near us and a playful Galapagos sea lion delighted us while snorkeling.
After a great morning, we navigated to Fernandina Island, the youngest of the jewels in the crown. We had a dry landing at “Espinoza Point”, where a large number of marine iguanas were the welcoming committee. Along the coast, during our hike, we spotted small harems of Galapagos sea lions, Galapagos penguins sunning themselves near the coastline and the largest colonies of Marine Iguanas of the Galapagos. This young island gives us the opportunity to travel back in time, to see the Galapagos without human impact. It was an incredible opportunity to experience a place that has been so untouched by humans. We enjoyed the interactions of the abundant wildlife with the mother volcano that created the island, silhouetted in the distance.
