The western realm of Galapagos is where we find the youngest islands of the archipelago; here we see impressive shield volcanoes and the youngest lava flows.
This morning we walked on Fernandina, the youngest island of all. It is also the home of large aggregations of marine iguanas, the only type that feeds underwater. After the walk we went snorkeling, and some guests encountered iguanas feeding on algae.
During the afternoon, we explored the coast of Ecuador Volcano in a place called Punta Vicente Roca. There we had great sightings of sea lions, iguanas, Galapagos flightless cormorants, and fascinating geology.
