Cruising around the islands with the most active volcanos in the Galapagos, we could make out the shapes of the shield volcanos from the ship. This interesting landscape is very characteristic of the western islands, which are the youngest in the archipelago.
Our early morning outing to Punta Espinoza is always one of the highlights of this expedition. It is such a pristine paradise in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This interesting site is full of life, and we had to be very careful where we stepped to avoid the marine iguanas basking in the sun. The iguanas bask to thermoregulate so they can survive in this tropical environment.
We had perfect weather conditions for a promising snorkeling session. The marine life was blooming, and we had close encounters with several species of fish and invertebrates. Reptiles were a favorite, and we observed marine iguanas swimming, diving, and feeding underwater.
Back on board, we enjoyed a Mexican lunch with delicious margaritas and three chocolate desserts! Lunch was followed by more outings, starting with Zodiac rides along the coast of Punta Vicente Roca, which is surrounded by a volcanic landscape. The amazing wildlife is abundant here due to the upwelling of the Cromwell Current, which provides nutrients to the rich waters.
Back on board, we enjoyed a wine tasting while we cruised by the collapsed caldera of Volcan Ecuador. We took a group photo with the Ecuadorian flag while we celebrated another day in paradise!
