We awoke to a much cooler day, which was a relief from the heat these last few days. After anchoring in the early morning near the Old Town, a group of us went in with our guide, Petra, to walk the historic Dubrovnik walls. Those who did were treated to the architecture and stories that this UNESCO World Heritage Site holds. Once off the walls, all guests reunited in the lower portion to learn about and see some of the evidence of the 1991-92 bombings, walk down the Stradun, and visit the Franciscan church and monastery. With free time after the tour, some guests checked out the oldest operating pharmacy (opened in 1317) or many of the other stores offering olive oil and black truffles; others simply sat in a local café and took in the beautiful city.
Back aboard, we had another amazing lunch followed by a surprise swim off the ship. Once dried off, we listened to Historian Dr. Rebecca Ingram give a talk on the Venetian Maritime Empire and its legacy in the Adriatic.
In the evening, we headed back into Old Town for a special musical performance: Klapa, traditional Croatian men’s a cappella. The private performance was held at the Domino Church and was sung by the award-winning group, Klapa Ostro. After our ears were delighted, we went back aboard Sea Cloud for dinner. Those who hadn’t quite had enough of the magical city headed back into Old Town to take a nighttime photography class with our photo instructor, Max Siegal.
