Our Amazon experience today included an enchanted location with a lot of impressive nature and wildlife. The best way to begin exploring was taking a hike in order to witness nature’s wonders up close. As we got deeper into the forest one of our biggest surprises was found up on the trees: pigmy marmosets. Green leaves, and a blue sky were part of the magnificent color palate that nature had for us throughout the visit.
Farther along the trail, a concerto of nature played by different species of birds showed us that the wildlife found in the area was diverse: tropical kingbirds, russet-backed oropendolas, and yellow-rumped caciques singing made for a perfect, delightful moment inside the reserve. Once we reached the farthest point, it was time to get a different perspective on the hike by walking along some suspension bridges strung through the rain forest canopy. Once back on board Delfin II we begun to navigate to get to our next destination: Nauta Caño.
In the afternoon our exploration only improved with a skiff ride into Nauta Caño. Home to thousands of birds, and host of hundreds of mammals, the Amazon is one of the most spectacular places on Earth, and Nauta Caño was the ideal place to enjoy nature’s marvels found in this part of the continent. At the beginning of exploration we enjoyed the presence of ringed kingfishers flying all around us. Black collared hawks decorated the coastal area as they became our companions during the activity.
On the shoreline, cocoi herons were found trying to feed on small animals in the area. Up in the trees, we had the surprise of finding a three-toed sloth that camouflaged very well with the tree branches. On our way back to Delfin II we saw squirrel monkeys jumping from tree to tree in order to make their way home. Today we had a journey like no other day in the Amazon.
