With the National Geographic Sea Lion anchored in Drake Bay, morning exercises began on the sun deck accompanied by a gorgeous sunrise. Right after breakfast, we went to ashore to begin our exploration of the private reserve of Caletas Beach. Those who opted to walk enjoyed not only the premises of the private reserve but also a long and more challenging trail. Spider monkeys were sighted feeding on tropical fruits along the trail. A troop of howler monkeys gave the explorers an interesting farewell by howling as they left the trails.

Once everyone returned, the National Geographic Sea Lion weighed anchor and cruised towards San Pedrillo Station in Corcovado National Park. Considered one of Costa Rica’s most important national parks, Corcovado is rich in biodiversity.

Here, some guests decided to explore the trail that goes inland, following San Pedrillo River. Along this trail they found several species of anole lizards, spider monkeys swinging up in the canopy, as well as great curassows. At the end of the trail, a lovely waterfall was our reward from Mother Nature. A refreshing time was had in the waterhole. In another area called Pargo Trail, a second walk gave those seeking photo opportunities the privilege of seeing the elusive tinamous and a troop of howler monkeys foraging.

Back on the ship, the lovely sunset felt like a nice farewell as we cruised away from this fantastic forested place.
