Today we had an exciting start to the day; we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise from the bow of National Geographic Venture, while we entered the protected waters of Cabo Pulmo National Park. Humpback whales and mobula rays greeted us by jumping out of the water. We boarded park-operated pangas and spent the first half of our day looking for close encounters with whales. Cabo Pulmo delivered — we had an amazing time watching humpbacks breach repeatedly.
We had lunch aboard National Geographic Venture. We spent the rest of the afternoon cruising in Gordo Banks, the exit point of the Gulf of California. We lost count of how many humpbacks we saw this afternoon — they were everywhere. We finished the day with a gorgeous sunset just off the coast of Cabo San Lucas.
