T’was the morn of our arrival

On Beveridge Reef

No sooner had we arrived

Then came these words from our chief:

“My dear seamen and seawomen

I regret to inform

But today is no day

For a Beveridge Reef morn.

The waves are a-rollin’

The swell is a-swollen

Not a good day

For atoll patrollin”

So as our ship sailed forth

To the great Palmerston Isle

We watched as the atoll

Shrunk away with each mile.

But back on board we were happy!

For we were spoiled with good speakers

Life is always a party

When you travel with smart creatures.

We learned of bright reef fish

And their special homes in the sea

Delivered with humor

By our dear Mike G.

Then on to Rikki Swenson

Who taught us practical tricks

Why shoebox your photos

When they can be mugs, bags or kicks?

Next up was Tim Severin!

With accounts of white whales

Was Moby Dick real

Or a mere fisherman’s tale?

Last but not least

Ian Bullock to the lectern

How about those sea birds

There’s so much to learn!

A gourmet dinner was served

While our ship rocked to and fro

Rich conversation…

Please, let the wine flow!

To bed we went

Bellies and minds full

What crazy mate

Would call a day at sea dull?!
