Belluda Caño is one of the best places to see nature’s wonders in the Amazon, and today we had a taste of it. We began exploring early in the morning to experience what Mother Nature can offer when wildlife is most active. The magnificence of the forest brought us to a magical world in different manners, such as bird callings all around us. The display of colors found in birds like yellow-hooded blackbirds had us thinking we were in paradise. The presence of blue and yellow macaws was a perfect photo op. Once back on board Delfin II, we had a pleasant breakfast and prepared to continue a morning full of adventures.
The morning exploration continued with a sequence of events that displayed the marvels of nature. Right at the beginning of the skiff ride, we were surprised by a small number of pink river dolphins. Farther up Belluda Caño, the symphony of nature was on display: birdsongs were heard everywhere we went, and colors displayed by different bird species including crimson crested tanagers and masked crimson chested cardinals. The biggest surprise was given by the saddleback tamarin monkeys that suddenly appeared in the middle of the forest.
In the afternoon, navigation brought us to our next destination: Dorado River. The best way to get into the forest exploration was on a skiff ride up the river In order to find more of nature’s surprises. Once we got deeper into the forest, different bird species were found at each side of the coastline: lesser kiskadee, king fishers, ospreys, black collared hawks, jacamars, and parrots were part of the wonders that showed us we were in a special place.
After a superb sunset, we started making our way back in total darkness in order to see one of the highlights of the Amazon: spectacled caimans. The first one was found very close to the shoreline, and did not move as we approached it. It stayed motionless while we were close making it perfect for a photography moment. At the end of exploration, we had the gratification of having one of the most splendid moments of the week that the Amazon could ever offer us by seeing several spectacled caimans along the riverside.
