We had the wonderful opportunity to explore two areas today, Bartolome and Santa Cruz Islands. The volcanic formations of Bartolome take us back to the times when the islands were formed. Lava tunnels, spatter cones, parasitic cones, and some other geological formations were amazing to see very close up. Later in the morning, we enjoyed our first snorkeling of the expedition. What a delight to be swimming right next to Galapagos penguins, green sea turtles, sharks, and many varieties of fish.
For the afternoon, we explored the northern side of Santa Cruz; we walked amongst the dry forest of the island to search for the prehistoric-looking Galapagos land iguanas. We were fascinated by the way these reptiles camouflage themselves within their surroundings. We had such a great afternoon discovering new regions of these enchanted islands.
