The first full day of our expedition in the Enchanted Isles took us to one of the jewels of the crown, Bartolome Island. Small and young, it is considered a field guide of geological formations. A boardwalk and wooden staircase of approximately 380 steps took us to the summit, from which we could admire one of the most emblematic landscapes of the Galápagos Islands: the view over Bartolome and nearby Sullivan Bay. In the afternoon we relocated north of Santa Cruz to visit Cerro Dragón. This is the last redoubt of one endemic reptile of that island: the land iguana. Although threatened by introduced species and changes in their habitat, their numbers have recently increased thanks to great conservation efforts by the Galápagos National Park Directorate.
