On this Monday morning, the National Geographic Islander is anchored on the eastern coast of Santiago Island. We are facing a little islet called Bartolome, where our first excursions of the day will take place.
Starting at 6:30 in the morning, our explorers disembarked at the landing dock. One group went on a long hike to the summit of the islet to enjoy the famous views. Another group explored the islet at a slower pace and focused on photographing the beautiful geological attractions along the path.
Afterward, we returned to the ship for breakfast and to prepare for the afternoon activities: snorkeling and kayaking. These activities took place on the southern coast of the island of Santiago where there is a small islet called Rabida. Also known as the Red Island, it features a fantastic red sand beach with a large sea lion colony, one of the main attractions of this destination.
Kayakers had a chance to explore the coast of the island on a peaceful ride, snorkelers had an unforgettable encounter with schools of colorful fish, while hikers explored the interior of the island. All of us enjoyed a great day in the Galápagos.
