Today we woke up to a beautiful sunrise on the bow as we headed to Bahia Almejas to look for gray whales. On the way, we actually saw two! After we dropped anchor and ate breakfast we embarked on an adventure on local pangas. We saw thousands of birds: cormorants, pelicans, gulls, magnificent frigatebirds, and willets. We also saw over a dozen gray whales, many of which were sticking their faces out of the water (a behavior called “spyhopping”).
After lunch, we had a presentation about iPhone photography by our photo instructor Jeff Litton. Then we had a wonderful beach walk on Magdalena Island; some were adventurous enough to climb the sand dunes and cross the island to the other side. After dinner, we received a very interesting talk about coyotes on Magdalena Island by naturalist Adrian Cerda.
