National Geographic Orion sailed west along an ancient and long forgotten voyaging route of Polynesian seafarers, those incredible mariners of old who spread across thousands of miles of ocean to populate the remote islands of the Pacific. They spread all the way to Rapa Nui, or Easter Island, where we just spent an incredible three days exploring on land before joining the ship yesterday.
As Captain Fred and his bridge team navigated west towards the Pitcairn Islands, our dear hotel manager Fran and her team made sure all our culinary needs were more than satisfied. During the day, expedition leader Alex and photo instructor Jeff gave presentations for our edification. Before dinner, the captain threw a cocktail party in the lounge and introduced some of the key behind-the-scenes people from the crew. It was a marvelous day at sea.
