Once again, our guests aboard Delfin II set off to explore the Amazon. Today’s journey led us to the vibrant Amazonas Community along the Maranon River. Here, we were graciously welcomed by the community's women leaders, who proudly shared their groundbreaking initiatives in healthcare, entrepreneurship, leadership, and sustainability. As we strolled through the community, the spirited voices of its youth resonated, sharing their projects and dreams. This visit highlighted the profound impact that the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic Fund has on these thriving communities.
In the warm glow of the afternoon, our expedition took an exciting turn. Departing at 4:00 p.m. in skiffs, we delved into Piranha Creek, a slender tributary overflowing with nature's wonders. Our journey led to the Great Confluence, where we gathered in our skiffs on the vast waters. Amid the serene flow of the mighty Amazon River, bottles of sparkling wine were opened. We toasted to our exceptional expedition, savoring the moment as we drifted, marking the end of an unforgettable day.

Yarapa River, Amazonas Village, Peru
Leaving Delfin II at 06:00 for our morning skiff ride, we explored the Yarapa River and monkeys were everywhere! We saw common wooly monkeys, monk saki monkeys, and common squirrel monkeys. We weren’t monkeying around! In addition to the monkeys there were woodpeckers galore! We photographed crimson-crested, yellow-tufted, and cream-colored woodpeckers as they were busily hammering away at trees and termite nests. Our afternoon was spent at Amazonas Village getting an introduction to life along the river. We enjoyed demonstrations of food preparation, basketmaking with palm fibers, and hand-dying with local plants to give the baskets vibrant colors. We also had an introduction to Minga Peru, a group serving 40 different communities in this area. Our evening was topped off with a toast to the beginning of the actual Amazon River, where the Marañon and Ucayali Rivers converge. Salud!
