We were very privileged to spend the morning in Alert Bay, home to the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations people. We were able to spend time learning about the history of the Kwakwaka’wakw territory and traditions in Umista’s cultural center and museum. We then filled their big house with people and watched as many Kwakwaka’wakw people wearing their traditional regalia danced and sang their stories for us. Afternoon cruising through Blackfish Sound we found humpbacks and southern resident killer whales. For the evening recap and dinner, we switched things up by having hospitality staff recap on crew life on National Geographic Quest while the field staff served dinner.
