Our second new polar build, National Geographic Resolution, is named to honor the second voyage of the legendary Captain James Cook.
A fully-stabilized vessel of the highest ice class (PC5 Category A), she will enable adventurous guests to go where few have or can. National Geographic Resolution’s most striking exterior feature is her distinctive profile, the patented X-Bow®, a game-changing design that guarantees the smoothest, most comfortable ride in all kinds of conditions; and since it eliminates bow impact, a quieter ride, as well.
Under Antarctica’s clear blue skies, National Geographic Resolution parked in fast ice in the Weddell Sea. Guests walked onto the ice to cheer on Captain Heidi Norling as she christened the brand-new vessel.

An equally impressive feature may well be her capacity: she carries just 138 guests, a commitment to expedition excellence over scale. Scandinavian-inflected, luxuriously appointed, her inviting interiors would be a destination in themselves. Because she is a Lindblad expedition ship, however, her attention is focused on the world outside—with acres of window glass to keep you connected to the stunning views beyond the pane, and a fleet of expedition tools to get you out exploring.
All cabins are outward-facing and feature large windows. All are equipped with climate control, an expedition command center—including tablets, multiple electrical and USB outlets, a TV, barometer, a National Geographic Atlas, and more—a mini refrigerator, small safe, and robes. Bathrooms are outfitted with a rain shower and directional showerhead, botanically inspired products, and a hair dryer. Enjoy luxury linens and pillows, as well as complimentary insulated water bottles.
After traveling to Antarctica aboard National Geographic Resolution, The Points Guy correspondent Gene Sloan reports on the ship's maneuverability, unique design, and creature comforts.
The Points Guy correspondent Gene Sloan spent a cozy night in one of the geodesic glass igloos perched atop the observation deck on National Geographic Resolution—an experience available to all guests on a first-come, first-serve basis.
On November 22, 2021, National Geographic Resolution celebrated her inaugural journey with a special Antarctic christening ceremony.
After successfully completing her sea trials in September 2021, National Geographic Resolution reached one of her final milestones: one step closer to her inaugural season exploring Antarctica in November 2021.
