Maitu Cristino
Born and raised on Easter Island as the daughter of two archaeologists, Maitu Cristino lived her childhood “in the field” between Rapa Nui and Tahiti in the Society Islands. As a teenager and young adult she lived in mainland Chile. This life experience of growing up between South Pacific islands and a South American country facilitated close relationships with a wide range of cultural and natural landscapes, with many chances to learn different traditions and distinctive outlooks from those cultures.
With a degree in psychology from the University of Chile, her focus has been on community and educational psychology. In this field she has worked in several adult education programs. Also interested in art as therapy she has learned many different art techniques over the years. Her main interests are art, mythology, religion, and how art represent and incarnates the beliefs behind a culture. An experienced traveler, she is currently living in intercultural contexts and working as a specialized guide on ethnocultural expeditions.
