Kelvin Murray
The oceans have enthralled Kelvin since an early age, which is hardly surprising given the seafaring traditions of his hometown of Aberdeen, Scotland.
An accomplished professional diver with over twenty-five instructor ratings plus commercial and technical diving qualifications, Kelvin recently over-wintered in Antarctica as Field Diving Officer for the British Antarctic Survey. Managing the only scientific diving operation that has consistently dived throughout the Antarctic winter allowed him to participate in several hundred dives in this challenging environment.
Besides the white continent, Kelvin has dived the arctic waters of Svalbard, Greenland and Canada. Whether investigating wrecks in Britain or New Zealand, exploring coral reefs in Polynesia and Egypt, or encountering sharks in South Africa and Mozambique, Kelvin is always keen to expand his knowledge of underwater life wherever it is found.
Prior to joining BAS, Kelvin was Education Officer for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, an organisation dedicated to the protection of the world’s cetaceans and their environment. In addition he is an ardent advocate for sharks and has been fortunate to dive with several species of these much-misunderstood animals.
Kelvin has also worked as a marine survival instructor for an internationally renowned training facility in Aberdeen, and has extensive first aid, medic and hyperbaric chamber qualifications at responder and instructor level.
