Jorge Alvear
Jorge was born in Cuenca, a city in the southern Ecuadorian Andes, but he moved to Galapagos 25 years ago with his parents. He fell in love with the archipelago. Therefore, he decided to study Tourism Management in Quito University. He started his career as hotel manager and continued as field assistant in outdoor activities.
Fifteen years ago, he certified as a naturalist guide for the Galapagos National Park Service. He has worked as a volunteer for the local Environmental Organization "Mar y Tierra". He is also one the founders of “Gecko”, an NGO involved in the protection of the ecology and culture of the “Enchanted islands”. He is a member of the directory of “Casa de la Cultura de Galapagos”, a non-profit organization from the Galapagenian community, for a unified cultural awakening by making the arts and literacy accessible and affordable for the entire community.
He is currently studying Communication, and his dream is to create a community library at his hometown, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, in San Cristobal Island.
