Daniel Balint

For over twenty years Daniel has pioneered award-winning expeditions exploring Australia’s rugged Kimberley, Papua New Guinea and the greater Pacific region. Recognition of his specialised knowledge has meant that he has been selected to lead many successful historical and biological expeditions including the notable discovery of the famous buccaneer William Dampier’s 17th-century Australian landing sites.

Daniel trained as a jeweller and South Sea pearl grader in the historic town of Broome, Western Australia before leading camel and horse expeditions into the remote Kimberley interior. He then established a multi-award-winning Kimberley expedition company that pioneered partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses, and which was subsequently inducted into the Australian Tourism Hall of Fame. He is accepted into many Indigenous communities as a close friend and has been adopted into the Julgunn Community as a son. As a gudeya (white man) he has the rare honour to be given the “skin” name Jalanga.

A passionate ocean conservationist, adventurer and sailor, Daniel has just successfully completed the longest oceanic crossing on the planet, traversing the Pacific Ocean from east to west, covering 6500 nautical miles on his 38-foot catamaran Brahminy. Many of Daniel’s expeditions have contributed to award-winning books including A Pirate of Exquisite Mind – The Life of William Dampier and The Diamond Dakota Mystery.
